Preview: @DuqVB Opens A-10 Play on the Road at Davidson, VCU

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne volleyball team (6-7) begins the Atlantic 10 schedule this weekend, when the Dukes trek to Davidson on Friday night and then head to VCU on Sunday afternoon. Both matches will be broadcasted on ESPN+, with Friday night's contest beginning at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday's contest against the Rams starting at 1:00 p.m. 

THE SERIES
  • The Dukes own an 8-1 record all-time against Davidson, but the Wildcats lone win came in the latest meeting, when the Wildcats swept the Duquesne last season at Belk Arena.
  • VCU holds a 6-9 record over Duquesne in the series, with the Rams earning four-consecutive wins.  
QUICK HITS
  • Duquesne enters conference play with wins in four of its last six matches, falling to tournament hosts Penn and West Virginia, while defeating Chicago State, Saint Francis Brooklyn, Navy and Eastern Kentucky on a neutral-floor.  
  • Last weekend, Liz Wayne and Hailey Poling landed on the Mountaineer Invitational all-tournament team. Wayne combined for 28 kills, while hitting at a .328 clip. Haile Poling dished out 56 assists and 20 digs, including a pair of 20-assist contests against Navy and Eastern Kentucky.
  • Over the past six matches, Summer Slade is averaging 3.09 kills per set to lead the team, while Maria Mosbacher (2.74 k/s) and Wayne (2.48 k/s) also average multiple kills per set. Wayne has recorded an efficient .369 hitting percentage in that span.
  • Wayne ranks second in the A-10 and 68th nationally this season with a .372 hitting percentage.
  • The duo of Dani Suiter (5.65 a/s) and Poling (4.23) have combined for 9.70 assists per set over the last six matches.
  • Defensively, Claire Boe (3.87 d/s) and Slade (3.43 d/s) have led the way on digs over the course of the last six matches. Slade leads the Dukes with six double-doubles on the season.
  • Ego Onu has averaged over a block per set over the last six matches, totaling 38 in 2019.
  • Davidson enters the A-10 slate with a 5-8 record falling in four consecutive matches. Elsie Crosley leads the A-10 with a .388 hitting percentage, while Sydney Champaigne ranks third in the conference in assists per set.
  • The Rams have posted a 9-5 record in non-conference play. VCU hosts La Salle in the conference opener against La Salle on Friday night, before hosting the Dukes. The squad leads the nation in blocks per set (3.36), with four rams averaging at least one block per set (Jasmin Sneed 1.64 b/s, Jaelyn Jackson 1.57 b/s, Kat Young 1.16 b/s, and Gina Tuzzolo 1.02 b/s). The Rams also lead the A-10 as a team in hitting percentage (.253).
