PREVIEW: DuqWSoccer vs. Davidson

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne women's soccer team (3-2-2) looks to extend its winning streak to three on Thursday night, when the Dukes head to Davidson (6-3-1) for their first Atlantic 10 road contest of the season. The matchup will be broadcasted on ESPN+ at 7:00 p.m.

THE SERIES
  • Duquesne leads the series with the Wildcats by a 3-2-2 mark. Last season, the two squads battled to a 1-1 tie at Rooney Field.
  • The Dukes picked up a 2-0 victory in their last trip to Alumni Soccer Stadium.
QUICK HITS
  • The Dukes are coming off of a 2-1 win over VCU in the A-10 opener at Rooney Field last Sunday. Duquesne trailed 1-0, until Deena DeBaldo recorded the equalizing goal in the 73rd minute, and fired off an assist to Ashley Brisoce for the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. The defeat was just the second for VCU on the season, who entered the match receiving a vote in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, and ranked second in the east region.
  • DeBaldo was named the A-10's Offensive Player of the Week after registering the goal and the assist, becoming the first Duke to earn back-to-back player of the week honors in program history.
  • With four goals over her past two games, DeBaldo now leads the conference in goals (6) and is tied for first in points (13) with Richmond's Alyssa Walker. Nationally, DeBaldo is 21st in the country in goals per game (.86), 36th in total goals and 37th in points per game (1.86).
  • With six goals this season, DeBaldo is tied for 10th in program-history for goals in a season. She needs four goals over her final nine-plus games in order to match the school record of 10 goals in a single season.
  • Megan Virgin continued her hot start to her Duquesne career on Sunday, as she has now allowed one goal or less in five of seven matches this season. The only games she has allowed multiple goals have come against nationally-ranked competition in No. 11 West Virginia and No. 14 NC State. She ranks second in the A-10 in saves per game (5.00) and third in save percentage (.795)
  • With a victory over Davidson, the Dukes will have strung its longest winning streak since defeating six A-10 foes in a row (Saint Louis, VCU, Fordham, George Mason, Davidson and Dayton) near the end of the 2017 season.
  • Davidson has not lost since September 5 earning four wins and a tie in the last five contests. The Wildcats have posted wins over Georgia Southern, UNC Greensburg, UNC Asheville and Saint Joseph's, while going the distance with VMI in a scoreless tie.
