PITTSBURGH - Duquesne rowing coach
Jenn Langzettel recently announced the addition of
Stephen Eckstein to the Dukes' coaching staff for the 2019-20 season. Eckstein comes to The Bluff as an assistant coach by way of Penn State, where he served as head coach of the Nittany Lions' Crew Club.
"I am ecstatic to be joining Coach Langzettel's coaching staff," Eckstein said. "Coaching at a high level is a dream I've been chasing since I graduated from Purdue, and I am elated to realize it at a university like Duquesne."
Eckstein brings over 10 years of coaching experience to Duquesne most recently in State College, where he led the Penn State Crew Club as head coach since 2017 after working as an assistant the previous season. Prior to the Nittany Lions, Eckstein spent time as both head and assistant coach at Butler University in Indianapolis, mentoring both the men's and women's teams from 2013-16. He also coached at the Indianapolis Rowing Center during the summers of 2008-13.Â
Eckstein was a member of the rowing team at Purdue where he graduated in 2010 with a degree in applied meteorology. He served as an assistant coach for the Boilermakers' novice team during the 2009-10 season, as well. Â
"From the campus, to the boathouse, to the people who comprise the program, it's easy to quickly become enamored with the Duquesne program and all it has to offer," Eckstein said. "I'm looking forward to settling in and engaging in one of the oldest pursuits known to mankind: making boats go fast."
Eckstein and the Dukes open the fall season with a scrimmage against Pitt on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
