PITTSBURGH - Duquesne head football coach
Jerry Schmitt announced the addition of 11 players to the 2019 recruiting class as part of National Signing Day on Wednesday morning. This rounds out an 18-player recruiting class in conjunction with December's early signing period.
The Dukes added three offensive linemen, two quarterbacks, a pair of running backs, an athlete, a defensive lineman, a linebacker and a wide receiver on Wednesday. All told, Duquesne welcomes five offensive linemen, three running backs, two defensive backs, two defensive linemen, two linebackers, an athlete and a wide receiver across the two signing periods. The recruiting class includes 12 athletes from Pennsylvania (including eight from the WPIAL), two from Ohio, two from Florida, one from New York and one from New Jersey. Â

"On this second signing day of 2019 we welcome a group of student-athletes that enhance the quality of our recruiting class," Schmitt said. "The athletic ability, academic achievement and community service of these future Dukes parallel that of the recruits who signed in December. I am impressed with their work ethic and desire to help our team continue to compete at a high level."
Â
"I also want to recognize and thank the coaching staff, administration, faculty and support staff for the hard work and long hours devoted to educating the recruits and their families throughout the recruiting process."
These additions join the seven December signees - offensive linemen

The Dukes are coming off a 2018 season in which Duquesne won its fifth Northeast Conference crown in addition to securing its first FCS Playoff win with a 31-10 victory at Towson. The Dukes were making their second FCS Playoff appearance, closing the year with a 9-4, overall record, their first nine-win season since 2011. In that span, Duquesne has won five NEC championships and registered 59 total wins, at least 10 more victories than any other team in the NEC. For the first time in program history, the Dukes closed out the season ranked in both the STATS FCS Top 25 and the AFCA FCS Coaches' Poll.
