Dukes Roll to 17-2 Victory over Saint Francis

PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne lacrosse team improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1999 with a 17-2 rout of visiting Saint Francis U (0-3) in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Arthur J. Rooney Field. The two goals were the fewest allowed by the Dukes since a 19-2 win over the Red Flash on March 11, 2015.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Dukes scored the first 15 goals of the game and never looked back. Fourteen of those goals came in the opening half, including four from Rilee Bradshaw and three from Haley Matthai.
  • Maddie Hart extended the Dukes' lead to 15-0 with a goal to open the second frame, before the SFU answered with its two goals on the day.
  • Megan Buettner and Bradshaw each added another score to close out the contest for Duquesne.
KEY STATS
  • Bradshaw netted a career and game-high five goals to go with an assist and three caused turnovers.
  • Maddie Hart tallied a hat trick and an assist while leading the team with six ground balls and five draw controls.
  • Matthai also finished with a hat trick and an assist.
  • Megan Buettner netted a hat trick, her third straight game with at least three goals while Michaela Connolly had a pair of goals and two assists to go with four ground balls.
  • Duquesne outshot the Red Flash 45-8 including a 29-0 clip in the first half.
  • The Dukes forced 40 SFU turnovers in the contest.
GAME NOTES
  • Duquesne has outscored its opponents 55-19 on the season and outshot its competition 148-43 including a 106-30 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Dukes improve to 10-0 all-time against SFU.
  • Duquesne''s 3-0 start under first-year head coach Corinne Desrosiers is the best since the Dukes began the 1999 season 4-0.
NEXT UP
  • Duquesne is slated to host Detroit Mercy on Sunday, March 3 at noon ET at Rooney Field.
