PITTSBURGH – Dayton remained undefeated in Atlantic 10 play with a 25-15, 25-12, 25-19 win over Duquesne at Mt. Lebanon High School on Saturday night. With the win, the Flyers (19-7, 12-0) remain at the top of the Atlantic 10 standings, while DU (10-16, 4-9) remains alone in seventh.
Maria Mosbacher had 11 kills and
Hailey Poling added 20 assists for Duquesne, which closes the regular season against La Salle at Mt. Lebanon on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 4:00 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dayton reeled off six consecutive points to take an 8-2 lead in the opening set, before the Dukes pulled to within four on a Mosbacher kill. Back-to-back kills by Liz Wayne and Summer Slade made it 18-12, but the Dukes could get no closer as the Flyers scored seven of the final 10 points to take the set 25-15. Dayton outhit Duquesne .419 to .200 in the opening set. Mosbacher, Slade and Wayne had three kills each and Poling added seven assists for DU.
- Duquesne rallied to take a 5-3 lead early in set two on a Mosbacher kill, before the Flyers responded with five consecutive points to take an 8-5 lead. The Dukes won a long rally to make it 9-8 before Dayton scored seven consecutive points forcing a DU timeout with the score 15-9. UD continued its run, making it 21-10 before a second Duquesne timeout. Mosbacher had three kills in the set.
- Set three was knotted at 7-7 early before Dayton took control scoring seven of eight points to take a 14-8 lead. Mosbacher had back-to-back kills to make it 14-10. DU, down 17-11, pulled to within 17-15 on a Wayne block and was within three at 19-16, but couldn't close the gap as a pair of service errors helped the Flyers to a 22-17 lead. The Dukes would get no closer the rest of the way. Mosbacher had five kills and Wayne added four for DU. Poling had 11 assists in the set.
