GENEVA, Ohio – The Duquesne swimming and diving team recorded a perfect 4-0 mark at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Classic on Saturday and Sunday at the SPIRE Institute. The Dukes improved to 5-1 in dual meet action on the season by defeating George Mason 189-157, La Salle 231-120, Saint Louis 180-173 and St. Bonaventure 194-158.
Duquesne paced all teams in three events on the day, as
Sophia Perez (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill) topped all teams in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 58.11,
Emma Menzer (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) bested all opponents in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:43.62 and
Sidney O'Donnell (Solon, Ohio / Solon) defeated foes from all four teams in the 1-meter dive with a score of 250.5.
Menzer also topped swimmers from George Mason, La Salle and Saint Louis in the 200-yard IM (2:07.76) and 400-yard IM (4:30.51).
Cateri Christinis (Charleroi, Pa. / Oakland Catholic) finished in second in the 1,650-yard freestyle for the Dukes with a mark of 17:45.29.
Lauren Devorace (Rocky River, Ohio / Rocky River) (5:07.21) and
Emma Brinton (Landenburg, Pa. / Avon Grove) (5:09.66) topped the Patriots, Explorers and Bonnies in the 500-yard freestyle. Devorace (1:55.72) and
Carson Gross (York, Pa. / York Suburban) (1:56.27) bested opponents from the same three teams in the 200-yard freestyle, as well.
Erin Kuhn (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) defeated George Mason, La Salle and Saint Louis in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.71) for Duquesne.
Adrienne White (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) bested divers from St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis and Colorado Mesa in the 1-meter with a score of 219.25 and 3-meter at 237.90. O'Donnell finished next in the 3-meter with a mark of 237.40.
The Dukes' 400-yard freestyle team with Gross, Devorace,
Heather Svitavsky (Willoughby, Ohio / Hawken) and Brinton sealed the undefeated weekend in the event with a time of 3:35.38, besting the Billikens, Explorers and Bonnies.

David Sheets: "This was a tough one. Saint Louis came ready to swim. Many of the ladies showed a lot of grit over the course of the three sessions and just kept racing. The 400 Free Relay at the end did what they needed to do to put us on the top of the scoreboard at the end of the meet. As nice as the wins were we still have lots of work to do to get the program where we expect it to be."
