No. 8 @DuqWSoccer Battles No. 1 Saint Louis in A-10 Quarterfinals Saturday

PITTSBURGH – The No. 8 seed Duquesne Dukes open the Atlantic 10 Championships against No. 1 Saint Louis on Saturday afternoon at Hermann Stadium. The quarterfinal round matchup is set for a 2:00 p.m. ET start against the A-10 regular season champions on ESPN+.

THE SERIES
  • First meeting in 2005, the Billikens hold a 5-3 edge over the Dukes all-time. The Dukes have won three of the last five meetings, but SLU earned a 1-0 victory over the Dukes last season at Hermann Stadium. The Dukes lone victory at St. Louis came in 2010.  
A-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • The Dukes are 3-6-1 in the A-10 Championships all-time. The Dukes last picked up a victory in the conference tournament in 2016 with a 1-0 overtime victory over George Washington. The Dukes picked up a tie and two wins in 2015 A-10 Championships, to win the A-10 title and advance to the NCAA Championships for the only time in school history.  
  • The last time a No. 8 seed defeated a No. 1 seed came in 2015, when eighth-seed George Mason downed first-seed George Washington, 1-0.  
QUICK HITS
  • The Dukes closed the season last week with a 4-2 home finale victory over St. Bonaventure last Thursday and posted a scoreless tie with Rhode Island in the final regular season contest on Sunday.
  • Four Dukes registered goals against the Bonnies, including Deena DeBaldo's ninth goal of the season. Her next goal would tie a school-record with 10 goals on the season.  
  • The Dukes' four goals against St. Bonaventure was its best output in conference play and second best in 2019. DeBaldo registered three goals in a 6-0 rout of Youngstown State on Sept. 15.
  • A win on Saturday would send the Dukes back to St. Louis next weekend, as the winner of Duquesne/Saint Louis will battle the winner of No. 4 La Salle/No. 5 Dayton on Friday, Nov. 8 at 2:00 p.m. ET. The championship match is set for Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1:00 p.m. ET at Hermann Stadium.
  • Saint Louis went undefeated in conference play with a 9-0-1 overall record. The Billikens posted a 14-3-2 overall record. The lone tie came against George Mason on Oct. 20.
  • In 10 games against A-10 goes, the Billikens allowed just four goals, while registering 27 goals.
  • SLU's three losses came against Notre Dame, Louisville and Oklahoma State. SLU last loss came on Sept. 8.
