Dukes Top Colonials, 4-1

Get season-high four goals in win

Freshman Rob Dymond scored twice (38', 64') and Noah Mehta added a goal (48') and a pair of assists to lead Duquesne (2-3-1) to a 4-1 win over Robert Morris (1-6-1) on Wednesday night at Rooney Field. It was the Dukes' 10th consecutive home win over the Colonials in the series that dates back to 1995. DU hits the road to face Oakland on Saturday, Sept. 22 in the first of back-to-back road games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dymond had the first scoring chance of the match when he ripped a shot off the right post following a free kick from 23 yards out in the 14th minute.
  • RMU got on the board three minutes later when Owen Pearce struck from above the box on the left side for his second goal of the season.
  • Dymond tied it in the 38th minute when he took a pass from fellow freshman Manel Busquets inside the box and buried it in the right corner. It was Dymond's second goal of the season.
  • DU outshot RMU 12-3 in the first half, with Dymond leading the way with five attempts (two on goal).
  • Mehta put the Dukes up 2-1 when he took a pass from Luke Kelly following a shot by Zach Hall and scored from just above the box. It was Mehta's second goal of the season.
  • Busquets added his second goal of the season in the 62nd minute when he took a pass from Mehta, hit the crossbar and followed his shot with a header to make it 3-1.
  • Dymond made it 4-1 two minutes later when he headed in a cross from Mehta.
  • DU outshot RMU 21-6, including 8-4 on goal.
  • The Dukes, who have started at least six freshmen in all six matches this season, started seven freshman for the fifth consecutive time.
  • This was DU's second multiple-goal game of the season. The other was a 3-0 win over Detroit Mercy on Sept. 2.
  • DU's four goals were its most since a 5-0 win over Bloomsburg on August 27 of last season.
  • Duquesne is now 11-1 vs. Robert Morris at home. The Colonials' lone win came in 1998. The Dukes have won the past 10 on Rooney Field. DU leads the series 15-6-3.

DUQUESNE HEAD COACH CHASE BROOKS
"It's the same play we've had for most of the season but tonight we were able to find the back of the net and that's the difference. We out shot them 12-3 in the first half and really just needed to get our shots on frame. That was my challenge for them at half. Once we started to, I think you saw us start to open up."
