Dukes Face Off with Pitt, RMU, Mercyhurst on Lake Arthur

RESULTS

PORTERSVILLE, Pa. - The Duquesne women's rowing team battled Pitt, Robert Morris and Mercyhurst on Saturday on Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park in the Dukes' final tune-up of the spring season before the Atlantic 10 Championships in early May.

DU's second varsity eight and the varsity four both paced their respective events on the day.

The second varsity eight of coxswain Caroline Dirr, stroke Serena Benages, Kasie Sayers, Mary Katherine Byrne, Maggie Cunningham, Devon Eliason, Olivia Delaney, Elizabeth Giglia and Ellen Wenzinger crossed the line first with a time of 7:29.35.

The varsity four with coxswain Mary Clay, stroke Meredith O'Neil, Rachel Kaup, Caroline Redd and Amanda Pellegrino placed first with a mark of 8:14.13. The group, with stroke Aleiia Asmundson also placed second in round two with a time of 8:25.57.

The Dukes' varsity eight with coxswain Faith Caldiero, stroke Lauren Murray, Brittney Raible, Samantha Dunn, Cassandra Holder, Allie Schmitt, Jessica Goldstein, Rachel Pierce and Molly Miller earned a second-place finish in both round one and two, including a time of 7:04.39 in round one.

Duquesne's second varsity four consisting of coxswain Abigail Guenther, stroke Aleiia Asmundson, Lauryn Garretson, Antonia Maffia and Hannah Straub placed second in the first round with a time of 8:34.04 and third in the second round with a mark of 8:39.60 with stroke Meredith O'Neil.

Head coach Jenn Langzettel: "It was a beautiful day for racing. We haven't been on the water a lot in the last couple of weeks due to weather so it was good for us to get back out there and see where we can continue to gain speed. Our next two weeks we will be focused on preparing for the A-10 Championship."

NEXT UP
The Dukes are idle next weekend before returning to Cherry Hill, N.J. and the Cooper River for the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday, May 5.
