PITTSBURGH - Sophomore midfielder Maddie Hart (Sykesville, Md./Century) and junior attacker Haley Matthai (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) each netted three goals apiece, but the Duquesne lacrosse team fell by a score of 16-10 to UMBC on Saturday afternoon at Arthur J. Rooney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Dukes jumped out to a 5-2 first half lead including two goals each from both Hart and Matthai.

- The Retrievers, who came into the game with a 5-1 record and their lone loss coming to No. 4 Maryland, answered with seven straight goals to gain a 9-5 advantage into the second period.

- DU responded with a pair of goals scored by senior attacker Jill Vacanti (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and sophomore midfielder Rilee Bradshaw (Middletown, Md.) to shrink the UMBC lead to 9-7 with 21:31 showing on the clock.

- The Retrievers then used a 6-0 run to build their largest edge of the contest at 15-7.

- The Dukes closed the game with three of the four final goals, the last coming from Matthai on the assist by freshman attacker Michaela Connolly (Sykesville, Md./Century).

KEY STATS
- The three goals scored by Hart and Matthai each represent career highs.

- Vacanti and Bradshaw scored two goals apiece for the Dukes. Bradshaw's two goals are a career high for the sophomore while Vacanti now has a team-high 10 goals on the season.

- Duquesne held a 16-12 advantage in ground balls.

- The Dukes travel to Michigan for a two-game road swing, taking on Central Michigan on Thursday at 4 p.m. before facing Detroit Mercy next Saturday at 3 p.m.
