@DuqWRow Faces Off with WVU

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - For the second time this fall, the Duquesne rowing team took part in a scrimmage against West Virginia, most recently on the road on Friday on the Monongahela River in Morgantown.

The Dukes and Mountaineers first met on the Allegheny in Pittsburgh, before squaring off in Morgantown on Friday. This marks the sixth consecutive season in which Duquesne and Big 12 member West Virginia have competed against each other.

In cold and rainy conditions in the Mountain State, the Dukes sent two varsity eights to battle two WVU varsity eight boats in addition to one Duquesne novice eight versus two Mountaineer novice eights.

Despite limited water time following the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia on Oct. 27, Duquesne head coach Jenn Langzettel was pleased with the Dukes' performance against WVU.

"While the conditions were a little less than ideal, all of the women handled them well and saw improvement on the day," Langzettel said. "It is great to have the opportunity to go up against a Big 12 team on a regular basis. We have formed a great relationship/friendly competitive atmosphere among the two teams. Having the ability to execute a competition with coaching and making changes throughout consistent piecing gives both programs an opportunity for improvement. We hope to continue this tradition each year."
