@DuqMSoccer Twum Much for La Salle

Jason Twum had a goal (27') and a key assist and goalkeeper Robbie McKelvey stopped seven shots to lead Duquesne (3-6-1, 1-0) to a 3-1 Atlantic 10-opening win over La Salle (4-5-1, 0-1) on Rooney Field. Zion Beaton (70') and Jallah Acqui (83') also scored for the Dukes who snapped a three-match winless streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Duquesne got on the board in the 27th minute when Austin Stout threaded a pass to a streaking Twum on the left side. Twum beat keeper Mark Tobin for his third goal of the season - and third goal in the past five games.
  • McKelvey had four saves in the opening 45 minutes for the Dukes.
  • Johnny Ciarlante had three of La Salle's four first half shots on goal.
  • McKelvey made a nice save on a close-in shot from Hayden Criollo just over one minute into the second half.
  • The Dukes made it a two-goal game when Beaton took a cross from Zach Hall and finished a first touch kick into the right corner. It was the first career goal for the DU freshman.
  • La Salle avoided its first shutout of the season when Criollo found the back of the net in the 76th minute. Criollo's goal came off a cross from Kenny Lassiter.
  • Acqui made it 3-1 when he took a short pass from Twum an put it by Tobin in the 83rd minute. Twum beat his defender one v one to make the pass to Acqui who scored his team high-tying third goal.
  • Acqui shot wide left after a long run to create a shot at an open net as time expired.
  • McKelvey's seven saves were one shy of his career high.

STAT OF THE GAME
This was Duquense's third-straight win over La Salle. The Dukes are now 6-1-3 against the Explorers in games played on Rooney Field.
