A second-half comeback by the Duquesne lacrosse team fell short Thursday afternoon as the Dukes fell to St. Bonaventure 13-11 in Olean, N.Y.
Kaitlyn DeHaven's three goals were a team high for the Dukes, who outscored St. Bonaventure 7-4 in the second half. Megan Buettner added two goals and recorded a career-high four ground balls. Erin Conway matched a game-high three caused turnovers and a team-high four ground balls.
Scarlet Jaworski led the Bonnies with four goals and keeper Morgan Conroy posted 17 saves.
1H: Maddie Hart opened the match with a goal at 24:06 to put the Dukes on the board. Bonaventure quickly responded, netting a goal at 23:31, leveling the match at 1-1. There were two ties and three lead changes until Jaworski's goal with 13:05 to go put SBU ahead for the remainder of the half. Bonaventure would lead 9-4 heading into halftime.
2H: The Dukes scored four straight (Buettner, DeHaven (2), Jill Vacanti) to bring the match within one goal, at 9-8 with 17:38 remaining. SBU scored back-to-back goals to extend its lead to 11-8 with 11:37 to go. Three unanswered goals from the Dukes (Courtney Battles, Megan Konieczny, Buettner) tied the match at 11-11 with 7:46 left. St. Bonaventure's goal with 5:43 on the clock proved to be the game-winner.
