The Duquesne lacrosse team fell to defending MAAC champion Canisius 23-12 Wednesday afternoon in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Dukes saw goal goals from eight players: Jill Vacanti, Kaelin Shaw, Megan Buettner, Sarah Kollhoff, Haley Matthai, Kaitlyn DeHaven, Maddie Hart and Tess Drotar. Vacanti scored a team-high three goals and picked up two ground balls for Duquesne. Additionally, Drotar matched a game-high five draw controls.

Canisius' Erica Evans led the way with five goals and two assists, with Jordan Roemer adding four goals and two assists for the Golden Griffins.

1st Half: Canisius opened the game scoring six unanswered goals, before the Dukes would record four uanswered of their own, bringing the score to 6-4 with 17:21 to go. Canisius would extend its lead to 14-8 heading into halftime.

2nd Half: The Golden Griffins would carry their momentum into the second half, adding another nine goals.

"It was a tough loss, but the team showed resilience. We kept battling until the last whistle was blown and didn't give up. We definitely have things to work on, but the coaching staff saw positive things to build off."

The Dukes host Saint Francis U (3-1) on Rooney Field, March 15 at 4 p.m.
