@DuqMBB Falls to Dayton

PITTSBURGH - Charles Cooke and Xeryrius Williams came off the bench to score 19 and 18 points respectively to lead Dayton to a 76-57 win over Duquesne at PPG Paints Arena.

Mike Lewis II scored 17 and Emile Blackman added 14 for Duquesne which scored a season-low 57 points and turned it over a season-high 22 times.

Duquesne committed eight turnovers in the first 7:24 in falling behind 21-6.

The Dukes, sparked by four quick points from Kale Abrahamson, pulled to within eight on a Blackman basket at the 5:27 mark.

UD's Sam Miller stopped the Dukes' momentum with a three-point play as the Flyers outscored the Dukes 10-5 down the stretch to take a 39-26 lead at the half.

Duquesne, which averaged under 12 turnovers in its nine previous games, had 14 at intermission.

Dayton scored the first two points of the second half, before Duquesne put together a 9-0 run - with baskets from four different players - to make it 41-35 less than four minutes into the half.

DU trailed by six before Dayton hit back-to-back 3-pointers, the second of which was banked in by Cooke, to make it 50-38.

Duquesne would get no closer than eight the rest of the way.

DU, which finished 3-of-21 from 3-point, was outscored 27-4 off turnovers.

Duquesne hits the road to face George Washington on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 7:00 p.m. (A-10 Digital Network).

NOTES

  • Duquesne is now 2-2 all time against Dayton at PPG Paints Arena.
  • DU's previous low point total this season was 59 in a 93-59 loss at then-No. 2 (AP) Kentucky on Nov. 20 ... Duquesne had scored 70 or more in its previous seven games.
  • Duquesne's previous high turnover game was 20 in a 78-71 win over Cleveland State on Nov. 27.
  • Freshman Mike Lewis II extended his double-digit scoring streak to 12 games with a team-high 17 points. Lewis also led the Dukes with 4 assists.
  • Dayton never trailed ... the Flyers' largest lead was +22, the last of which came at 76-54 with 1:23 remaining ... DU cut the Dayton lead to six twice, the last coming with 14:42 to go.
