April 25, 2016 Duquesne Line-up Versus West Virginia, Pitt and Mercyhurst
On Saturday, April 23rd Duquesne Women's Rowing took to the Allegheny River for a race with West Virginia University, Mercyhurst University, and The University of Pittsburgh. With floating starts all teams took part in two rounds of racing throughout the morning over the 2000m course.
The women's varsity eight was the first event of the morning going up against the varsity eight from WVU and Mercyhurst. In a very tight race the length of the course WVU crossed the line first in 7:07.84 with the Dukes less than a second behind in 7:08.60. Mercyhurst finished third in 7:21.01. In the women's second varsity eight the Mountaineers again came away with a victory crossing the line in 7:06.12 to the Dukes 7:10.62 second place finish. The varsity eight from Pitt finishing third in 7:29.55. In the women's varsity four the women from Mercyhurst came away with the win in 7:38.7 with the Dukes finishing second in 7:42.7 just ahead of the Mountaineers who posted a time of 7:43.6. In the women's third varsity eight Duquesne brought in a victory (7:57.9) with Pitt finishing second (8:18.6) and WVU finishing third (8:39.1). The final event of round one had Duquesne's freshman/novice fours racing second varsity fours from WVU and Mercyhurst. Duquesne's A entry finished first in 7:46.6 with West Virginia close behind in second (7:49.3), Duquesne's B entry third (7:56.8), and Mercyhurst finishing fourth (7:58.0).
All events remained the same for round 2 of racing with very similar results. The varsity eight from WVU once again stayed out front of the varsity eight from Duquesne by less than a second (6:49.74 and 6:50.07 respectively) with the Mercyhurst eight in third (7:03.77). The women's second varsity had to be stopped and restarted a little over a minute into the race due to a wake. The eight from WVU again bested the Dukes (6:17 to 6:20) with the varsity eight from Pitt in third (7:30). The women's varsity four saw the women from WVU taking first this round in 7:31.2 with Mercyhurst finishing second in 7:41.1 and the Dukes finishing third in 7:41.1. The Dukes again earned a first place finish in the third varsity eight (7:13.7) with the Panthers finishing second (7:27.8) and the Mountaineers third (7:49.6). For the final event of the day the second varsity four from West Virginia earned a victory crossing the line in 7:30.5 with the B entry from Duquesne crossing the line in 7:32.7, the A entry crossing in 7:45.2, and the lone entry from Mercyhurst crossing in 8:00.3
