QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne women's soccer team ended their three match losing streak with a 2-0 shutout victory over Bucknell on Tuesday night at Rooney Field.
The Dukes were first to get on the board, scoring in the 27th minute. After Linnea Faccenda intercepted a Sarah Bresette pass at the 35-yard line, she dribbled 10 yards to find Katie O'Connor. O'Connor rotated while fighting off Bison defender Karli Cirovski to put the shot past Bucknell keeper Jessica Ratner inches inside the left post for the score.
In the 40th minute, the Dukes increased their lead to 2-0. Amy Vinopal found O'Connor whose heel touch went straight to Faccenda from 15 yards out. Faccenda put the shot past Ratner on the right side for the goal.
The Dukes almost got on the board in the 47th minute when O'Connor's pass found Malea Fabean deep in the Bucknell zone, but a challenging Ratner prevented Fabean from setting a shot off.
Dukes keeper Kyra Murphy made four saves in recording her second shutout of the season.
COACH ALVINE QUOTE: "All credits to the team tonight, they bounced back in a big way. They played a great game tonight -- the 1st half may have been the best half we've played all season and two of the best goals we scored all season. We're thrilled to get this game and end the non-conference schedule on a good note."
UP NEXT: The Dukes return to the road to take on Richmond in the 2015 Atlantic 10 Conference opener on Oct. 1st at 7:30 p.m.
