QUICK RECAP:
The Duquesne volleyball team recorded its first-ever victory over a Big 10 school when the Dukes defeated Rutgers 3-1 in the second day of the Rutgers Invitational. In the first day, Duquesne fell to Princeton and Howard. This was the final non-conference event of the season before the start of Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Princeton 3, Duquesne 0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-14)
Lacey Levers recorded a team-high 12 kills and hit .556, but Princeton had three players record double-digit kills in their shutout victory.
Howard 3, Duquesne 2 (25-16, 16-25, 25-13, 10-25, 15-10)
In a 5-set match that lasted nearly two hours, Howard led from start-to-finish in the 5th set to secure the win.
Duquesne 3, Rutgers 1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-19, 25-16)
Lavers and Madelynn Burnham each recorded 17 kills, Mary Henry 46 assists and Sammy Kline and Camryn Vecera 11 digs a piece in the Dukes 3-1 win over the host Scarlet Knights. In the 1st set, the Dukes took a commanding 20-10 lead after a RU attack error. Burnham's kills gave the Dukes the 1st at 25-20. The 2nd set has 12 ties and Rutgers was able to hold off two set points en route to a 28-26 victory. The Dukes were able to score eight straight points midway through the 3rd set to win 25-19. In the 4th set, the Dukes used another 8-0 run to double up the Scarlet Knights 16-8. A RU attack error at match point gave the Dukes a 25-16 set win and a 3-1 match victory.
