La Salle Defeats @DuqMBB, 87-72

PHILADELPHIA - Jordan Price hit five 3-pointers in scoring a game-high 19 points, to lead La Salle to an 87-72 win over Duquesne at Tom Gola Arena.

Six players hit at least one 3-pointer for the Explorers who finished 13-of-30 from the arc.

Micah Mason and Derrick Colter led Duquesne with 16 and 11 points respectively. L.G. Gill added 10 off the bench for the Dukes who shot 40 percent, including 8-of-23 from 3-point.

La Salle hit five of its first six 3-point attempts in jumping out to a 15-2 lead just over three minutes into the game.

Duquesne, behind Mason and Colter, battled back to cut the La Salle lead to 31-27 on a Colter layup with 4:54 left, but would not score again as the Explorers closed the half like they opened the game, with a 12-0 run.

Mason (10 points) and Colter (9 points) combined for 19 of DU's 27 first-half points on 8-of-16 shooting. The rest of the lineup was a combined 4-of-17.

The Explorers opened the second half like they opened the game, hitting three 3-pointers in the first 4:08 to up their lead to 55-36.

Duquesne hit just three of its first 14 shots of the second half.

La Salle's lead reached a game-high 26 points at 67-41 with 10:56 left.

Duquesne returns to Pittsburgh to host Dayton on Saturday, Feb. 21 in the annual Chuck Cooper Classic. The game, set for a 2:02 p.m. tip, will be televised nationally by NBCSN.

NOTES

• La Salle has won the last five games in the series..

• With his 11 points, Derrick Colter moved within 15 of becoming Duquesne's 38th 1,000-point scorer.

• Duquesne scored 72 points against an Explorers defense that entered the game giving up an average of 62.0 ppg.- La Salle's lowest opponent scoring average since 1950-51 (60.9 ppg.).

• La Salle, which went 13-of-30 from the 3-point arc, entered the game averaging 4.6 3-pointers per game (4.3 in conference play).

• Guard Micah Mason saw a streak of two consecutive 20-point games snapped ... Mason finished with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting.

• Duquesne, which did not attempt a free throw until the 16:14 mark of the second half, went 9-of-12 (.750) from the foul line ... DU is 57-of-78 (.731) from the stripe in its past five games.

• La Salle led from start to finish .. the Explorers' largest lead was 26 (67-41) with 10:56 left.
