QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne volleyball team fell 3-1 to VCU at the Palumbo Center on Friday night.
Making her second start of the season, Maddie Bazelak recorded a career-high nine kills. Mary Henry recorded 30 assists, Camryn Vecera (13) and Sammy Kline (12) combined for 25 digs and Lacey Levers had six blocks
VCU's Kalah Jones, who had 27 kills in the last contest against Duquesne, had a match-high 17 kills tonight. Sahbrina McLetchie added 16 kills and Indigo Thompson recorded 40 digs. Tori Baldwin had a match-high seven kills.
Trailing 16-13 in the 1st set, VCU won seven of the next eight points to go ahead 20-18. The Rams would keep the lead and win the set 25-21.
The Dukes jumped out to a fast 10-1 lead in the 2nd set and never looked back. The lead would rise to 11 points at 14-3. A strong finish gave the Dukes the set at 25-14.
After the break, the 3rd set started out close. With the score tied at 9-9, VCU went on a 10-1 run to take a 19-10 advantage. A Dukes attack error won the set for VCU 25-16.
Duquesne led 9-7 in the 4th set before the Rams scored the next seven points to make the score 14-9. Duquesne responded with five straight points to tie the set at 14-14. Tied at 18-18, VCU broke the set open by winning the next five points en route to a 25-19 win.
UP NEXT: The Dukes play their final home match of the season on Sunday at 1pm. Seniors Maggie Burnham, Nora Young along with Henry will be honored.
