RECAP FROM DAVIDSON, N.C. - For the first time in school history, the Duquesne women's soccer team has advanced to the finals of the Atlantic 10 Championship after a 2-1 victory over La Salle on Friday night. Katie O'Connor buried a Danya Fenech pass for the game-winning goal in the 78th minute.

The Dukes got on the board first - In the 6th minute Abby Weber was awarded a penalty kick after a La Salle defender was called for a handball in the box. Weber, who converted the deciding PK in the quarterfinal round against Dayton, put the ball past Explorers keeper Larissa Zambello, giving Duquesne a 1-0 lead.

La Salle would make the match level in the 25th minute when a corner kick taken by Jessika Kagan found Paige McDowell who fed the ball into the box to Marykate Bateman, who put it past Vanessa Perdomo for the tying goal.

The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 until O'Connor's goal. The play started when Fenech had the ball deep in the corner and made a perfect cross to O'Connor, who found the back of the net.

Three minutes later, Kagan had a chance to score, but her shot went off the crossbar. She had another opportunity in the 84th minute, but her shot went high. The Dukes defense clamped down the rest of the way, not allowing any more shots.

Perdomo finished the contest with seven saves.

For the match, La Salle outshot Duquesne 20-13 and took six corner kicks to the Dukes' four.

UP NEXT: #7 Duquesne (11-9-1) will take on #5 Fordham (13-6-2) on Sunday at noon.
