QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne volleyball team evened its record at 14-14 and improved to 8-5 in the Atlantic 10 Conference after a 3-2 victory over George Mason in the regular season finale on Saturday night.
The trio of Maddie Bazelak, Lacey Lever and Molly Davet combined for 44 kills (17, 15 and 12 respectively). Mary Henry topped the half century mark with 54 assists and Sammy Kline led all players with 21 digs.
With the 1st set tied at 20-20, Mason had back-to-back kills followed by an ace and another kill to make the score 24-20. The Dukes held off a set point on a Patriots service error, but a kill from Mason's Meredith Bush ended the set at 25-21.
Duquesne never trail in the 2nd set and only tied once at 1-1. The Dukes had a lead of nine points at 19-10. A Nora Young kill ended the set at 25-18 and tied the match up at 1-1 heading into the intermission.
The 3rd set had five ties, the last coming at 24-24. Back-to-back kills from Abbie Trzeciak and Davet won the set for the Dukes 26-24 and put them ahead 2-1 in the match.
The 4th set was also close with six ties and three lead changes. Down 23-20, the Dukes won three of the next four points, but could not catch the Patriots as a Lola Owokonran ended the set with Mason winning 25-23.
Trailing 2-1 early in the 5th set, the Dukes won seven of the next 10 points to take an 8-4 lead. Mason would get within two points of tying twice -- at 10-8 and 11-9. Trzeciak's kill won the set at 15-10 and the match 3-2 for the Dukes.
UP NEXT: The Dukes will play for the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship. They will begin in the quarterfinal round on Friday Nov. 20th. Seeding, opponent and time to be announced by the league. The event will be hosted by George Washington.
