QUICK RECAP:The Duquesne volleyball team won its fifth match in six tries after a 3-1 victory over Davidson on Friday night. Madelynn Burnham, Nora Young and Lacey Levers all recorded 13 kills. Mary Henry had 38 assists and Sammy Kline recorded 19 digs in the victory.
Davidson doubled-up Duquesne early in the 1st set, taking a 12-6 lead. The Dukes fought back, going on an 11-4 run to take a 17-16 advantage after a Wildcats hitting error. DC would tie the score at 17-17, but a kill by Young, a Davidson error and a Molly Davet kill put the Dukes up 20-17. They would keep the lead as a Levers kill ended the set 25-22.
In the 2nd set, Duquesne jumped out to a 4-0 lead and stayed on top for the first 25 points of the set. A Dukes error made the score 13-13 and was the first of 10 ties in the set. With the score deadlocked at 24-24, back-to-back Duquesne errors gave the Wildcats the 26-24 win and tied the match at 1-1.
Similar to the 2nd set, Duquesne started the 3rd set by taking an early lead -- 9-2. The Wildcats called timeout and responded with a 15-8 run to tie the set at 17-17. Five ties later at 24-24, Davet and Young recorded kills to win the set 26-24 and take a 2-1 match lead.
With Duquesne leading 9-8 in the 4th set, the Dukes rattled off six straight points to take a 15-8 advantage and never looked back. Duquesne ended the set by winning the last four points -- 25-15 and the match 3-1.
