PITTSBURGH - Earl Brown scored 16 points and Ben Millaud-Meunier added 14 as Saint Francis snapped an 11-game series losing streak with a 67-52 win over Duquesne at Palumbo Center.
The loss was the fourth in a row for DU, which had won 31 of the 33 previous meetings between the two schools.
Derrick Colter led Duquesne with 17 points. Jeremiah Jones was the only other Duke in double figures with 10. Jones added a team-high seven rebounds.
Saint Francis, which hadn't won in Pittsburgh since 1966, hit 10 of its first 15 shots in jumping out to a 21-8 lead as Earl Brown, who scored 10 of his 12 first half points during the run, led the way. The Red Flash, who never saw their lead dip below six from that point on, took a 16-point lead on a Millaud-Meunier three-point play with under one minute left in the half.
Duquesne, which opened the game missing 14 of its first 20 shots, got a 3-pointer from Micah Mason at the first half horn to make it 40-27.
Fourteen of DU's 24 first half field goal attempts - including five makes - came from beyond the 3-point arc.
Saint Francis missed its first seven shots of the second half, but the Dukes, who missed four of their first five, could only cut the lead to nine before Greg Brown ended the drought with a bucket at the 15:09 mark.
SFU took another 16-point lead on a Greg Brown 3-pointer with just under 10 minutes left.
The Dukes cut it to 10 on a Jones drive, only to see Millaud-Meunier bury his third 3-pointer of the half to make it 58-45.
Saint Francis maintained at least a 13-point lead the rest of the way.
SFU, which entered the game surrendering 61.1 points per game, held the Dukes to a season-low 52.
The Red Flash, led by Ronnie Drinnon's 15 rebounds, outrebounded the Dukes 45-29.
Saint Francis shot 41.9 percent to 37.5 percent for Duquesne.
"We got crushed on the glass, but more so its been our offense," said Duquesne head coach Jim Ferry. "What epitomized that was the start of the second half. We had eight possessions in a row, we started with the ball and then we got seven stops in a row and only scored twice.
"It's pulling teeth to score right now."
DU hosts UMass Lowell (6-4) on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 1:00 p.m. in its final pre-Christmas game.
