QUICK RECAP: The Duquesne volleyball team finished the 2014 regular season by falling 3-1 at Dayton on Sunday afternoon.
Arielle Love had a team-high 15 kills, hit .312 and had seven blocks. Lacey Levers had 11 kills and hit .333. Patti Abshire had a season-high 20 digs and Mary Henry 38 assists.
With the 1st set tied 11-11, the Dukes scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 21-13 lead. A kill by Madelynn Burnham closed out the set with the Dukes winning 25-15. For the set, the Dukes hit .438 with 15 kills.
The Dukes and Flyers were deadlocked at 5-5 in the 2nd set, but UD quickly went up 14-8. DUQ came back to win the next three points, but would not get any closer as Dayton went on to win the set 25-17.
In the 3rd set, Duquesne was up 10-9 before UD scored five straight points to go up 14-10. Duquesne was able to get within one point at 23-22, but the Flyers used a kill followed by a Duquesne attack error to win the set 25-23 to go up 2-1 in the match.
A Dayton kill resulted in the eighth tie of the 4th set made the score 14-14. This started a 7-2 run that made the score 20-16, forcing a Dukes timeout. Duquesne responded with three straight points, but could not hold off the Flyers as they took the set 25-22 and the match 3-1
UP NEXT: The Dukes return to Dayton for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship. Duquesne will be the #6 seed and face #3 seed Saint Louis on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The winner will play #2 George Washington.
