Women's Soccer Falls to Saint Francis in Season Opener

LORETTO, Pa. - The Duquesne women's soccer team fell to Saint Francis 2-0 in the 2012 season opener at the Stokes Soccerplex.

The Red Flash got on the board first when Tesa McKibben, the two-time reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Year, scored off a free kick from the 25 yards out in the 35th minute. SFU added an insurance goal in the 84th minute when McKibben set up Beatriz Maros de Carvalho who tipped the ball in from five yards out.

The Dukes recorded seven shots on goal, led by Paige Maroney with four and Stephanie Colon with three. Ashley Szalwinski made seven saves for DU.

Duquesne returns to Rooney Field on Sunday to take on Youngstown State. Kickoff will be at 1:00 p.m.
