MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Four players recorded double-doubles as the Duquesne volleyball team improved to 6-2 on the season after its 3-1 (27-25, 26-28, 25-17, 25-21) victory over cross-town Robert Morris on Tuesday night.
Sara Scheirman had a team-high 18 kills along with 13 digs. Allison Foschia had 14 kills and 16 digs. Nicole Wright had 10 kills and 18 digs. Taylor Jones recorded 50 assists and 10 digs.
The first set featured 10 ties and with the Colonials up 24-23, the Dukes fought off set point to tie the score at 24-24. The score would be tied at 25-25 before a kill from Ashley Buse and an ace from Scheirman gave DU the 27-25 win.
With the second set deadlocked at 26-26, RMU's Erica Robb's kill followed by a Becky Jay ace gave the Colonials a 28-26 set win and tied the match at 1-1.
Duquesne jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the third set and never looked back. Foschia's kill gave DU a 25-17 set win and a 2-1 match lead.
In the fourth set, with the score tied at 17-17 the Dukes would capitalize on a RMU error and go forward from there. A Scheirman kill ended the set at 25-21 and the match 3-1.
Next up for the Dukes is a trip to Cleveland, Ohio. First up is IPFW on Friday followed by DePaul and the host team, Cleveland State on Saturday.
