PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team improved to 17-8 overall and 7-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play after its 3-1 victory over Fordham on Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.
The scores of the sets were 25-12, 23-25, 28-26, 25-22.
Allison Foschia had 18 kills and 11 digs. Sara Scheirman recorded her 1,000th career dig in the 4th set and also added 14 kills. Arielle Love set career-highs with 13 kills and a .667 hitting percentage. Taylor Jones recorded 49 assists and Ashley Buse had a match-best five blocks.
The Dukes dominated the first set and took advantage of nine Rams errors and -0.28 hitting percentage. DU had 11 kills as they took the set 25-12.
With the second set tied at 23-23, Fordham used back-to-back kills from Randi Ewing to tie the match up at 1-1 as the Rams won the second set 25-23.
Fordham jumped out to an eight point lead early in the third set as a Maria Rodenburg ace made the score 11-3. Duquesne would go on a 14-6 run to tie the score at 17-17 and would take its first lead of the set on a block by Love and Nicole Wright. The set would be tied eight more times until back-to-back kills by Foschia and Scheirman gave the Dukes the set at 28-26.
DU scored six straight points midway through the fourth set to take a 15-7 lead. Although Fordham held off six straight match points, Foschia's block ended the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Up next for the Dukes are five straight road matches beginning on Friday when they travel to Charlotte. They follow with George Washington (11/5), The City Game against Pitt at Fitzgreald Fieldhouse (11/9), Temple (11/11) and La Salle (11/12).
