Women's Soccer Falls to Navy in Overtime 3-2

Sept. 24, 2010

Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Paloma Perez's golden goal in the 99th minute lift Navy to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Duquesne women's soccer team on Friday night in Annapolis, Md.

The Midshipmen got on the board in the 21st minute as Anastasia Abid took a long crossing pass from Carissa Youker for a goal. Navy would strike three minutes later on a header by Kelsey Learned.

The Dukes would battle back from the two goal deficit. For the first time in Duquesne women's soccer history, a keeper scored a goal. Gabby Morrin took a free kick and ripped a shot past Navy keeper Alexes Lopez-Shaw from 40 yards out in the 32nd minute.

Megan Long's second goal of the season tied the match at 2-2 in the 75th minute. The score would hold as regulation ended at 2-2.

Duquesne fired three shots - two on goal - in the first six minutes of overtime, but it was Perez who took a pass from Abid and found the back of the net on the right side past Morrin to give Navy the win.

Next up is the Dukes' Atlantic 10 Conference opener against St. Bonaventure on Oct. 2nd. Match time will be 7:30 p.m.
