PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team won its third in a row and fifth of its last six after a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18) victory over cross-town rival Robert Morris on Tuesday evening at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
The Dukes improve to 26-8 all-time over RMU .
Allison Foschia recorded her third double-double of the season after her 13 kill, career-high 21 digs performance. Sara Scheirman also notched a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Sara Svorinic added a match-best 51 assists. Nicole Wright added 12 kills and Amy Palko 14 digs for the Dukes who improved to 9-3 on the season.
The Dukes hit over 60 point above their season average by attacking at .270 clip, totaling 52 kills, 52 assists, four aces and 63 digs.
After falling behind 3-0 early in the first set, the Dukes rattled off nine of the next 11 points to take a 9-5 advantage. The Colonials would cut the DU lead to one point at 11-10 before scoring seven on the next nine points to take a six point lead at 18-12. Up 24-18, Palko's ace gave the Dukes the set.
Down 7-5 in the second set, the Dukes went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-8 advantage. The Dukes' lead would go as high as six points twice in the set - the last at 24-18. RMU would score a pair of points before an Ashley Buse kill ended the set at 25-20.
With the Robert Morris leading 14-13, Duquesne used a 7-0 to take a 20-14 lead. DU would scored the final three points to win the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Up next for the Dukes is the Kent State Invitational. DU will play the host Golden Flashes on Friday night and Syracuse and Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
