WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Powered by Sara Scheirman's double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs, the Duquesne volleyball team was a 3-1 winner over Connecticut in the final day of the Purdue Active Ankle Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
The Dukes finish the event with a 2-1 record and had a pair of players named to the all-tournament team in Sarah Svorinic and Liz Homan
Amy Palko led with the Dukes with 14 digs and Svorinic recorded a match-high 42 assists for the Dukes who improve to 8-3 on the season.
The team split the first two sets with the Huskies taking the first set 25-20 and the Dukes winning the second set 25-18.
With the third set tied at 13-13, a Scheirman kill put the Dukes ahead for good. DU would win the set 25-20
Duquesne was down early in the fourth set, but a 7-3 run mid-set put the Dukes ahead for good with a 13-9 lead. Allison Foschia's kill ended the set at 25-21 and the match 3-2.
The Dukes step out of tournament play on Tuesday night when the host cross-town rival Robert Morris on Tuesday. Match time is at 7:00 p.m.
