LEWISTON, N.Y. - Paige Maroney and Morgan Herbert scored goals less than two minutes apart to lead the Duquesne women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Buffalo in the first day of the Niagara Fall Classic on Friday evening.

With the victory, the Dukes improve to 3-2-1 on the season while the Bulls fall to 1-4-0.

DU got on the board in the 34th minute when Maroney found the back of the net past a diving Ainsley Wheldon. A minute and 51 seconds later, Herbert scored after a scrum in front of the Buffalo goal.

Keepers Ashley Szalwinski and Gabby Morrin combined for the shutout.

Szalwinski started the contest, but was issued a red card right before halftime, which meant the Dukes played with a man down for the rest of regulation.

"We worked hard and played well together today," said head coach Tim Zundel. "We have momentum on our side."

The Dukes, who have now won three of their past four contests, will face the host team Niagara on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
