PHILADELPHIA - The Duquesne volleyball team won its sixth straight match Friday night after their 3-0 shutout of La Salle at Tom Gola Arena.
With the victory, the Dukes improve to 17-6 overall, 5-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Allison Foschia led the Dukes with a match-high 14 kills. Sara Scheirman recorded her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 11 digs. Amy Palko had tied the match-high with 12 digs. Sarah Svorinic recorded a match-best 34 assists.
Up by six points at 17-11 in the first set, La Salle went on an 8-2 run to tie the set at 19-19. The Explorers went up 24-21, but the Dukes fought off three set points to tie the set at 24-24. With the set deadlocked at 28-28, a La Salle attack error followed by a Liz Homan kill gave DU the set 30-28.
Duquesne used a 10-0 run midway through the second set to take a 21-11 lead en route to a 25-15 win to put the Dukes up 2-0 in the match.
DU had control of the third set from beginning-to-end, winning 25-20.
This was the ninth shutout of the season for Duquesne.
The Dukes will remain in Philadelphia for a match against Temple on Saturday night. Start time will be 7:00 p.m.
