PITTSBURGH - For the second consecutive match, a Michelle Mooren goal was the deciding factor as the sophomore defender scored her second straight game-winning goal in Duquesne's 2-1 victory over La Salle on Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes improve to 7-6-1 overall and an impressive 4-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference loop. La Salle falls to 7-7-2 and 1-3-1 in the conference.
DU got on the board first on Lauren Ott's third goal of the season. Ott deflected a Barbie Rohm pass past Explorers' keeper Gabby Pakhtigian in the 36th minute. The assist was Rohm's first-ever collegiate point.
Duquesne would hold the lead until the 67th minute when La Salle's Renee Washington did a 180 on a loose ball to find the back of the net past Dukes' keeper Ashley Szalwinski.
Eight minutes later, it was Morrin who drilled a free kick past Pakhtigian for the game-winner.
The teams combined for 28 shots - Duquesne 15, La Salle 13 and 11 corner kicks - Duquesne 6, La Salle 5.
Szalwinski made three saves while improving her record to 3-2-0 on the season. Stephanie Colon recorded a career-high three shots for the Dukes.
"I am very pleased with our effort today," said head coach Tim Zundel. "We showed a lot of heart and work hard for each other. To win both games this weekend is great for the team."
Duquesne, in the middle of a four-match home stand, return to Rooney Field on Friday night to take on the A-10 leader Dayton Flyers (14-2-0, 6-0-0 A-10). Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
