PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team won its third match in a row after defeating Fordham 3-1 on Friday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
Allison Foschia led the Dukes (14-6, 3-2 A-10) with 14 kills followed by Sara Scheirman and Liz Homan with 13 each. Amy Palko and Nicole Wright had 12 digs. Scheirman added 11 digs and Foschia 10 to record double-doubles. Sarah Svorinic has 40 assists.
Fordham's Brittany Daulton had match highs 17 kills and 17 digs. Kailee May and Katie Wells added 16 kills. Mary Diamantidis recorded a match-high 50 assists for the Rams who fell to 12-12, 3-4 A-10.
DU got off to a slow start in the first set, hitting -.031 while committing nine errors. The Rams broke an 11-11 tie by going on a 10-2 run to break open the set at 21-13 en route to a 25-16 set win.
The second set saw 11 ties before the Dukes rattled off four straight points to make the score 20-16. Duquesne would keep the lead and tie the match at 1-1 after the 25-20 set win.
With Fordham up 21-18 in the third set, the Dukes battled back to tie the contest at 24-24. A Scheirman kill followed by a Fordham error gave Duquesne a 26-24 win to take a 2-1 match lead.
The fourth set went back-and-forth and with the score tied at 22-22, the Dukes used a pair of Foscia kills sandwiched between a Rams error to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Duquesne puts its three-match winning streak on the line Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. against Rhode Island.
