HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Duquesne volleyball team improved to 6-1 on the season after taking a pair of matches on Saturday - 3-1 over Saint Francis, Pa. and 3-0 over Hampton - to finish the Days Inn/James Madison Invitational undefeated.
Liz Homan earned most valuable player honors, while Nicole Wright and Sarah Scheirman were voted to the all-tournament team.
In the first match of the day, the Dukes continued their dominance of SFU after their 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 25-11) victory. The Dukes improved to 25-1 all-time against the Red Flash. Wright's match-best 20 kills was one kill shy of tying her career-high. Homan hit .571, Chelsea Tillotson recorded two 39 digs and Amy Palko added 18 digs in DU's win.
The Dukes needed just 65 minutes to finish off Hampton 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-16) in their final match of the invitational. Wright and Scheirman combined for 21 kills and Tillotson had 31 assists.
Duquesne will host Pittsburgh on Tuesday night in the volleyball version of the city game. The match starts at 7:00 p.m.
