PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team fell to 3-0 to Dayton on 2009 Senior Day. The A-10's leading hitter, Lindsay Fletemier recorded a match-best 13 kills and hit .526. She also added three solo blocks for the Flyers (24-3, 13-1 A-10) who defeated the Dukes for the 11th straight time and 31st out of 33 all-time matches.
Liz Homan led the Dukes with seven kills, followed by Jessica Artman and Sara Scheirman with four each. Katie Goss recorded 16 digs and Chelsea Tillotson had a match-best 20 assists.
DU started off solid, as Wright's kill DU tied the contest at 8-8 early in the first set. The Flyers followed with a 7-0 run to take a 15-8 lead taking advantage of a pair of Duquesne errors. DU would cut the Dayton lead to three points at 18-15, but would get not closer. Anna Eytchison's kill gave UD a 25-17 win in the opening set.
The Dukes had an early 6-5 lead in the second set before the Flyers won the next four points to lead 9-6. DU was hurt by committing 10 errors and a -.051 hitting percentage as Dayton took the set 25-19.
The third set was similar to the two prior sets - the Dukes had an early lead but the A-10's top team was just too much. Fletemier's kill broke a 12-12 tie and UD never looked back, winning the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
The loss drops DU to 14-14, 4-9 A-10 going into Friday afternoon's match against Fordham. Match time is 4:00 p.m.
