PITTSBURGH - Coming off a 4-0 victory over Xavier Friday night, the Duquesne women's soccer team had a difficult challenge ahead of them Sunday afternoon when they hosted 9-0-5 Dayton. Coming into the match, UD outscored their opponents 34-4 and had a goals against average of 0.26.

The high-scoring Flyers got on the board in the 12th minute when keeper Lisa Rogers booted the ball to the Dukes 40-yard line, finding Colleen Williams who found the back of the net after going one-on-one with DU keeper Gabby Morrin.

It took just 47 seconds for the Flyers to add to their lead, when Lauren MacCormick took a Mandi Back pass for a goal. MacCormick would scored Dayton's third goal of the half on assists from Alison Giner and Cara Cornacchia.

A swarming UD defense held Duquesne without a shot in the first 45 minutes, as they took their 3-0 lead into halftime.

Paige Maroney became only the fifth player to score a goal against Dayton this season in the 56th minute, playing a bouncing ball past Rogers to make the score 3-1.

The Dukes had a chance to get within one goal when Rogers made a diving save off a Morgan Herbert shot. The play immediately went the other way resulting in a breakaway goal from Dayton's Alison Giner to make the score 4-1.

The Dukes (4-10-0, 1-6-0) have a two-match road trip next week - Oct. 23 at Richmond followed by Oct. 25 at George Washington.
