PITTSBURGH - Niagara's Laura Kimoto's goal in the 80th minute broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Purple Eagles a 2-1 victory over Duquesne Friday night at Rooney Field.
Both teams started slowly as the first shot was not registered until the eighth minute when Dukes' keeper Brittany Findley made a diving fingertip save on a shot from NU's Caitlin Long.
Both teams remained scoreless until Duquesne's Kristin Vinicky scored her first career goal on a penalty shot in the 41st minute, pushing the shot past Purple Eagles' Ashleigh Bowers.
The Dukes held the lead until Niagara's Caitlyn Kilkenny found the back of the net in the 74th minute. Kimoto hit the game-winner six minutes later.
Duquesne had three more shots before the final horn, but none connected on goal as the Purple Eagles gave the Dukes their first loss of the season.
DU returns to the field Sunday afternoon when they travel to Loretto, Pa. to visit Saint Francis, Pa. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
