Volleyball Falls to Northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF - The Duquesne volleyball team fell in their final match of the Fiesta Bowl Tournament Saturday night 3-0.

Jessica Artman had a team-high 12 kills followed by Tricia Mullen's 10, Amy Palko had 17 digs and Sarah Svorinic recorded 20 assists.

The Dukes played the Lumberjacks even through the first 24 points of the first set. Back-to-back DU errors have NAU a 14-12 lead which they held the rest of the way, winning the set 25-20.

DU fell behind 7-0 in the second set and could not overcome the deficit. A Mullen kill got the Dukes within three points at 20-17, but Northern Arizona scored five straight points to take the second set 25-27.

Duquesne played NAU tight in the third set, but after falling behind 8-7 they could not regain the lead dropping the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

Artman and Mullen were named to the all-tournament team. Artman finished the tournament with 35 kills while hitting .547 and Mullen had 27 kills and 17 digs.

The final tournament of the 2008 season begins Friday when the Dukes take on Ohio State in the Kent State Mizuno Open.
