Results
Duquesne used a gold medal peformance in the event-ending 400-yard freestyle relay to secure a fourth place finish at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship. Freshman Edward LeBlanc was named the meet's Most Outstanding Rookie.
Ten Dukes scored team points, led by LeBlanc who finished fourth in the 100 freestyle in 45.83. He was followed by freshman Jim O'Hara in eighth place in 46.59, senior Ian Walsh in 11th in 46.78 and sophomore Brendan Schilling in 12th in 46.90.
The Red and Blue had three swimmers score in the 200 breaststroke as sophomore Ian P. Walsh claimed sixth place in 2:06.86, junior Anthony Herzog finished 13th in 2:10.22 and senior Josh Barr placed 16th in 2:11.56.
A trio of freshmen also placed in three separate events led by Greg Matuszewski who finished ninth in the 200 backstroke in 1:52.50, Dan Doyle who touched in 1:56.87 in the 200 butterfly for 12th place and Darren Hill who was 16th in the 1,650 freestyle in 16:50.25.
The four-day competition ended with O'Hara, Schilling, Walsh and LeBlanc combining to win gold in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:03.05.
In all, the Red and Blue won 8 medals at the championship, including five gold and set six school records, four individual and two relay.
