DU Swimmers Climb into Third Place

Duquesne's men's swimming team only competed in three events Thursday evening, but they made the most of them, scoring 100 team points to climb into third place after two rounds of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship.

The Dukes scored 33 points in the 500-yard freestyle, 27 points in the 50-yard freestyle and 40 points for their first place showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Freshman Edward LeBlanc won a gold medal and set a school record in the 500 free with a time of 4:29.73. Fellow frosh Jim O'Hara followed in sixth place in 4:36.49.

Sophomore Brendan Schilling captured fifth place in the 50 free in 21.03 followed by freshman Rich Ryan in ninth with a time of 21.49 and senior Ian Walsh in 13th in 21.57.

The night ended with the relay team of Schilling, O'Hara, Ryan and LeBlanc taking gold in a school record time of 1:22.72.

Day three of four will see the Dukes competing in two relays and four individual events. Preliminaries are at 10:30 am and finals are at 6:30 pm.
