CINCINNATI - The Duquesne volleyball team ended its season with a 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 25-22) loss at Xavier Sunday afternoon.
Liz Homan had a match-high 13 kills and Jessica Artman led DU with a team-high 11 digs. Chelsea Tillotson led the Dukes with 38 assists.
With Duquesne leading 23-20 in the first set, the Musketeers scored five consecutive points - beginning with a DU attack error followed by three XU's Claire Paszkiewicz aces and a Kelly Ruth kill. The home team took a 1-0 match lead with the 25-23 win.
The Dukes dominated the second set with a 25-15 win. With the score tied at 10-10, DU took advantage of three consecutive errors to take a lead they would not rescind.
The third set was played close and featured eight ties. With the set deadlocked at 18-18, the Musketeers rattled off three straight aces to take a 21-18 lead. Megan Hellman finished the set with an ace to give XU a 25-21 set win and a 2-1 match lead.
With the score tied at 22-22 in the fourth set, the Dukes committed a pair of errors followed by a Musketeers kill gave the home team a 25-22 set win and a 3-1 match victory.
The Dukes conclude the season with an overall record of 15-14. They finished 3-10 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
