Women's Soccer Ties La Salle 2-2

Oct. 3, 2008

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Laura Tlumack's first career goal could not have come at a better time as she found the back of the net with just nine seconds remaining in regulation sending the Duquesne women's soccer match into overtime at La Salle Friday night. Neither team scored in the extra periods as the match ended a 2-2 tie. Coach Tim Zundel's team is now 3-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the Atlantic 10 loop.

The Explorers got on the board first in the 29th minute when Traci DePasquale tapped in a heather Steadman shot off a cross from Ally Kenney.

Early in the second half, Kenney gave La Salle a 2-0 advantage on assists from Alex Conley and DePasquale.

An Annie Reid shot from 20 yards out found the back of the net in the 70th minute to get the Dukes within one goal at 2-1.

The Dukes had a chance to tie the match in the 73rd minute when DU had a corner kick, but a Gia Marino header flew high of the goal. Less than 90 second later, Samantha Kaiser had a header also go high.

With less than 10 seconds left, Duquesne had one chance to tie the match on a Jenna Farneti corner kick. Farneti connected with Tlumack with eight seconds remaining in regulation and the freshman's header went past Explorers keeper Melissa Sanger to tie the match at 2-2.

DU had a pair of chances to win the match in the extra periods, but Sanger turned away both Reid and Brooke Nettuno.

"To come back from two goals down on the road is quite an accomplishment," said Zundel. "Although we wanted to get a win, I am pleased with how everybody played tonight, especially in the last 20 minutes."

Duquesne will travel to Fordham Sunday afternoon to take on the Rams at 1:00 p.m.
