PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's soccer team and Saint Joseph's played to a 1-1 tie on a rainy Friday night at Rooney Field.
The Atlantic 10 rivals were scoreless after the first 45 minutes. In the 66th minute, Kortney Rhoades found the back of the net to give the visiting Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Dukes answered a little more than two minute later as Rachel Laraway recorded her first career point assisting on Shaina Geisler's fourth goal of the season.
The teams played even the rest of the way as the majority of the match was played between the 20-yard lines. An increase of wind and rain slowed the match down for both teams.
The Hawks had a few scoring chances in the first overtime, but a Danielle DeBernardo header was high and a Rhoades shot also sailed high of the goal.
The Dukes also had their chance in second overtime, but an Annie Reid shot was wide of the cage and a Gia Marino attempt was high.
The tie gives Duquesne a 6-5-4 overall record and 4-3-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference going into Sunday's match against 2-10-4, 0-5-3 Temple. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
