Final Stats
PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne volleyball team fell to Xavier 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20) Friday night at the Palumbo Center.
Jessica Artman tied a game-high with 12 kills, Amy Palko had a team-best 16 digs and Sarah Svorinic had a match-high 39 assists for the Dukes who fell to 15-9 overall and 3-5 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
The evening started out on a positive note for DU, as they stole the first set 25-22. With the score knotted at 22-22, a Xavier service error followed by a Svorinic ace and a XU hitting error which gave the home team an early 1-0 match lead.
With the Dukes leading 8-7 in the second set, the Musketeer recorded five consecutive services aces to take a 12-8 lead. Duquesne could not regain the lead as they dropped the set 25-16.
The third set began much like the second set with DU leading 8-7. A pair of Dukes' errors coupled with two Xavier aces gave the visitors an 11-8 lead en route to a 25-17 set victory.
The Musketeers opened up to an early 15-5 lead in the fourth set. DU closed the gap to five points at 22-17, but XU proved to be too much as they won the fourth set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
DU looks to reverse their fortune Sunday afternoon as they take on 15-8, 6-1 Dayton at 1:00 p.m.
