WVU got out to an early lead in the second set and took advantage of nine DU errors. After building an eight point lead at 18-10, the Duquesne got within three points twice at 23-20 and 24-21, but an attack error ended any chance of a Dukes comeback as the Mountaineers won the second set 25-21.
A WVU error broke an early 6-6 tie and DU never looked back as Amanda Humphrey's kill gave Duquesne a 25-21 victory in the third set.
Facing defeat in an elimination set, West Virginia used a 6-0 run midway through the fourth set to take a 17-11 advantage. The Dukes narrowed their deficit to 21-20, but the Mountaineers' Lisa Hough's kill ended DU's comeback attempt as the visitors forced a deciding game after their 25-21 win.
Duquesne took care of business in the fifth set, winning 15-7 and securing the match 3-2. The Dukes took advantage of five WVU errors while adding seven kills in the deciding set.
