ST. LOUIS - The Duquesne volleyball lost to Atlantic 10 West Division rival Saint Louis 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-16) Thursday night at the Chaifetz Pavilion.
The Dukes hit a season-low .055 while recording only 21 kills as a team. Tricia Mullen and Brittany Poling led DU with six kills each. Amy Palko recorded 14 digs and Sarah Svorinic had 18 assists.
In the first set, the Dukes had an early 6-5 lead, but the Billikens' Bridget Fonke had a kill that started a 7-0 run and gave SLU a 12-6 advantage. Duquesne would only muster seven more points in the opening set as Saint Louis took advantage of DU's -.036 hitting percentage and jumped out to a 1-0 match lead after their 25-13 victory.
The Dukes had an early lead in the second set, 3-2, but after an 8-1 run by the Billikens, DU could not mount any sort of comeback falling 25-13.
With the third set tied at 7-7, SLU scored rattled off 10 of the next 12 points, including six in a row. The deficit was too much for DU to overcome as they lost the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
The loss drops Duquesne to 14-8 overall and 3-4 in the A-10 loop.
The Dukes look to reverse their fortune Sunday afternoon when they host West Virginia. Sunday's game is DU's annual Dig for the Cure match.
