KINGSTON - The Duquesne volleyball team lost to Rhode Island 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20) on Saturday evening.
Jessica Artman led DU with 14 kills, Chelsea Tillotson recorded 31 assists and Amy Palko led the Red and Blue with 18 digs.
The Dukes fall to 13-7 overall and drop to 3-3 in the Atlantic 10 West division.
With Dukes trailing 23-20 in the first set, a pair of kills, coupled with two URI errors and an Amanda Humphrey service ace gave DU the early advantage in the match after winning the set 25-23.
A Caitlyn Welsh ace broke a 19-19 tie in the second set and gave the Rams the lead for good as the Dukes could play catch-up. A Duquesne error gave Rhody a 25-22 victory to even the match at 1-1.
Duquesne played the third set close, but could not pull ahead. A Liz Homan kill got DU within two points at 18-16, but the Rams maintained their advantage to score a 25-20 win.
URI led from beginning to end in the fourth set. Laura McIntosh ended the set with a kill to give the home team the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
The Dukes have a tough contest Thursday night as they travel to division-leading Saint Louis. The next home match is Oct. 19 against West Virginia in the Dukes' annual Dig for the Cure match.
